Rochester Table Tennis Club player Christopher Lam, 13, competes in the AAU JuniorOlympics, which was held in Des Moines, Iowa, from July 27 to Aug. 8. Christopherwon two silver medals and a bronze medal, among other awards.
The 2009 AAU Junior Olympics was held in Des Moines, Iowa, from July 27 to August 8. The table tennis event was held between July 31st and August 2. Minnesota’s team was represented by 13 table tennis players, including three excellent young players from the Rochester Table Tennis Club. The following is a summary of their performances:
• Michael Tran: Three gold medals (AAU Age Group Event - Under 8 Boys Singles: 1st place; Under 10 Boys Doubles: 1st place; State Team Event: - Under 10 Boys Team: 1st place).
• Christopher Lam: One 2nd place trophy (USATT Junior Nationals, Division F Singles: 2nd place), two silver medals (AAU Age Group Event - Under 14 Boys Doubles: 2nd place; State Team Event - Under 14 Boys: 2nd place), one bronze medal (AAU Age Group Event - Under 14 Boys Singles; 3rd place).
• Brandon Lam: Two bronze medals (AAU Age Group Event - Under 14 Boys Doubles: 3rd place; State Team Event - Under 14 Boys: 3rd place).
Michael (age 7) is son of Hoang Tran and An Nguyen of Rochester. Christopher (age 13) and Brandon (age 10) are sons of Chi and Tiffany Lam of Rochester. Among other awards, Brandon won two bronze medals; Michael won three gold medals; and Christopher won two silver medals and a bronze medal.
